A Place to Be
A downloadable game
Find your place in the cycle.
A Place to Be is a work that offers an unorthodox exploration of non-humanoid player characters and the concept of death in digital game spaces.
Explore a wild world...
The game uses a simple point and click control scheme to let players discover the artificial world’s familiar cycles.
... and take many forms.
This project was meant to study the potential of non-humanoid, non-speaking player characters as expressive beings in games. It blends 2D hand drawn pixel animation with a smooth 3D background in an experimental art style.
A Place to Be was created towards the completion of a Fine Arts MFA in Digital Arts and New Media at The University of California, Santa Cruz in the Spring of 2017. It was on exhibit during April 2017 as part of the ultrashift exhibition.
